New expansion for 8 additional caravans  completed
May 2021
We have completed the new expansion on our the five-star park to create 8 new pitches for caravan holiday homes with views of the beautiful Dyfi Valley.

We have been fortunate that due to a waiting list we have filled 6 of the 8 plots, leaving 2 plots still available.

We are very proud of what has been achieved on the park over the years and caravan owners will be aware how much we value the fantastic natural environment we have here in Penegoes.

All the contractors and suppliers involved are from within a 25-mile radius of Penegoes, ensuring that our family’s policy of supporting the local economy continues. Main contractor is Stephen Thomas from A. Thomas, Penegoes.

Luxury lodges available on 25-pitch expansion at Maesperthi
June 2018
The creation of 25 new pitches for luxury lodges and caravan holiday homes with 360 degree panoramic views of the Dyfi Valley and surrounding countryside has been completed.

The £350,000 expansion includes 8 luxury lodges, 17 caravan holiday homes and a new reception building on a four-acre development, which also includes a new entrance road to the park from the A489. Work should be completed in July and we are delighted to report that four pitches have already been sold.

This is the first time we have ventured into luxury lodges which are being supplied by Salop Leisure and Pemberton Leisure Homes. It will make Maesperthi the first luxury lodge park in the local area.

We have been in the fortunate position, over the years, of having a waiting list of people wishing to become owners on the park. Hopefully, this extension will give them the opportunity they have been waiting for.

To coincide with the extension we have welcomed our daughter, Angharad, as a business partner and look forward to her contribution in the years to come.

Maesperthi has been owned by our family for around 400 years and it was originally a sheep and beef farm. Diversifying into caravans 16 years ago, the park achieved five-star status from Visit Wales in 2005 and has retained this grading ever since.

Couple's five star caravan park wins Farm Diversification Award
February 2011
A five star caravan holiday home park and working farm at Penegoes, near Machynlleth has won the Farm Diversification Awards, supported by Farm Diversification Grant Scheme www.glasu.org.uk, at the Powys Business Awards.

Maesperthi Caravan Park is a successful farm diversification project owned by David and Anwen Davies. David's family has owned the 100-acre farm for around 400 years and it was originally a sheep and beef enterprise.

The park currently has 53 caravan holiday homes but David would like to expand further in the future, subject to planning approval at local and county level. The park and farm employs three people and David and Anwen both hold down responsible jobs away from the business.

Targeted marketing and consistent support from caravan dealership Salop Leisure has resulted in strong demand for caravan holiday homes at Maesperthi, which has a waiting list of prospective buyers.

The park achieved five star status from Visit Wales in 2005 and has retained this grading ever since. In 2011, David and Anwen converted a dilapidated farm building into a leisure complex and they have since added a launderette, taking investment to more than £400,000 over the past nine years.

In addition, David continues to run a profitable farm enterprise with a flock of 550 Speckled Face and Suffolk sheep. He won a Montgomeryshire Agricultural Association farm diversification award in 2004.

"Unbelievable" was ecstatic David’s reaction to winning the award. "It's brilliant for the family and staff at Maesperthi and is a reward for hard work and vision. We are very grateful for the grant support we've received from Powys County Council and the Welsh Government to develop the park's facilities."

"Attending the awards has been an eye-opener because I never fully realised the range of businesses and innovation that we have in Powys. We are very proud to have been associated with the awards."

Jon Armitage, a Powys Business Awards judge, praised the couple's investment in the beautifully laid out and picturesque park whilst both holding down responsible jobs elsewhere. "Their remarkable achievement was much admired by the judges," he said.

The awards, organised by Mid Wales Manufacturing Group and sponsored by Powys County Council, celebrate excellence in business across the county. The awards ceremony, held at Derring Line, Brecon, was compered by TV and radio presenter Iolo Williams and attended by 300 guests.

A record number of entries was honed down to 41 businesses from across Powys, which were shortlisted in 13 categories and the judging panel revealed that the competition had been closer than ever.

'ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE' WITH A DIFFERENCE
August 2014
On 24th August 2014 there was an 'Ice Bucket Challenge' on the caravan site. Rather more extreme than most it was nevertheless great fun and raised £230 for the charity Motor Neurone UK.

The Ice Bucket Challenge, sometimes called the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on someone's head to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and encourage donations to research.
It went viral on social media during July–August 2014. In the US, many people participate for the ALS Association, and in the UK, many people participate for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, although some individuals have opted to donate their money from the Ice Bucket Challenge to other organisations.

MP opens £150,000 leisure complex on 5 star park
October 2011
Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies opened a £150,000 leisure complex at a five star caravan holiday home park near the ancient market town of Machynlleth on Sunday.

The complex, located in a converted farm building, is the latest development at Maesperthi Holiday Park, Penegoes, which has seen the Davies family invest more than £300,000 over the past six years.

David Eifion Davies, his wife Anwen and daughter, Angharad run the 53-pitch park alongside a 100-acre sheep farm in a picturesque location just two miles from Machynlleth.

The family received a £20,000 tourism grant from the Welsh Government and a £10,000 sustainable tourism grant from Powys County Council towards the leisure complex, which includes a sauna room, jacuzzi, well equipped gymnasium, pool table, Sky TV and a meet and greet room.

The Sustainable Tourism Powys Scheme is part-funded through the Rural Development Plan for 2007-2013, which is financed by the European Union and the Welsh Government.

MP Glyn Davies congratulated the Davies family on its "superb tourism development" and said Mid Wales had become a popular destination for tourists.

"This type of development is a huge benefit to the area and raises the reputation of tourism in Montgomeryshire as a whole," he added.

Owner David Eifion Davies said: "It's important that we cater for the demands of the younger generation that is coming into the caravan and leisure industry. People like to make the most of their leisure time and there is a much greater focus on fitness.

"With the changeable weather in this country, we also need to provide something for people to do on wet days when they are not able to go for walks across the 100 acres of land that we have here.

"Our well equipped leisure complex is located in the last of the original farm buildings at Maesperthi, which was in a dilapidated state before its conversion. It is something that I have always wanted on the park and I'm delighted with the end result."

Mr Davies moved to Maesperthi with his late parents, Huw and Freda, in 1969 and the family opened a caravan park as a diversification project, initially with just five holiday home pitches, 35 years ago.

The family is proud that the park has achieved five star status from Visit Wales, the tourism arm of the Welsh Government, for the past six years, but is always looking to improve.

The park is supplied with caravan holiday homes by Salop Leisure, which has sales centres in Machynlleth, Shrewsbury and Stourport.

The company's managing director Dylan Roberts said: "The Davies family have recognised the importance of investing in their park and have consistently improved it over the past few years to ensure that they have a top quality, five star tourism product to offer.

"Salop Leisure is proud to be associated with the family and greatly values the loyalty they have shown over many years. The new leisure complex is an excellent addition to the park and shows the family's commitment and determination to provide caravan owners with the best quality facilities possible.

"Vacant pitches at Maesperthi are very rare, which is testament to the significant investment made by Dai and his family in the park's infrastructure coupled with their excellent customer relations.

"Fortunately for the Welsh tourism industry, Mid Wales is blessed with some of the best caravan holiday home parks in the UK."
